Once home to Cockatoo Island’s medical officer and engineering manager, our two Federation-style heritage houses can each accommodate up to 12 people.

Set amidst lush gardens on the upper island, these beautifully restored dwellings – built circa 1913 – boast an outdoor barbeque and entertainment area, with views across to Hunters Hill.

Accommodation for eight people across two or more nights:

  • Monday to Thursday – $625 per night
  • Friday to Sunday – $950 per night
  • Week-long hire – from $3560

A one night stay for eight people:

  • Monday to Thursday – $825 per night
  • Friday to Sunday – unavailable

Private events: Guests can hold events for up to 50 people. Fees apply. For more information, view our Hire Agreement for Event Bookings in the Heritage Houses.

Note: Rates are subject to change for special events and public holidays.


What's included


Standard booking includes bedding four eight guests across four bedrooms, namely:

  • 3 x King beds for a total of six guests (Note: Each king bed can be split into two single beds)
  • 1 x Double bed for two guests

Bedding for up to four additional guests is available, namely:

  • 1 x double sofa bed for two guests (additional $50 per night)
  • 1 x single rollaway for one guest (additional $50 per night)
  • 1 x king single bed in a fifth bedroom for one guest (additional $100 per night)

Note: Bedding for additional guests can be added to your booking at the Optional Extras screen of our online booking platform.


  • All linen and towels
  • Self-contained kitchen with microwave and fridge
  • Flat screen TV, DVD/CD player, Bluetooth music station and alarm clock
  • Laundry room with iron and board, washing machine, line and dryer

Additional info

What to bring: Food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and personal items.

Check-in/check-out: Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am

Accessibility: We regret that due to their heritage nature and position on the upper plateau, our Heritage Houses are not wheelchair accessible and may be unsuitable for anyone with difficulties climbing steps. To discuss more accessible accommodation options, please email stay@cockatooisland.gov.au.

Private events: The Heritage House gardens are perfect for bespoke events for up to 50 guests. Email stay@cockatooisland.gov.au for further details.

An update regarding the Harbour Trust's approach to COVID-19...

Cockatoo Island's accommodation, including campground, houses and apartments are currently closed to the public. To support our accommodation guests at this time, we have modified our cancellation policy for stays booked prior to 31 May 2020. All stays can be rescheduled to any time in the next 12 months at no cost. Campground stays can be cancelled at no cost, and a 20% cancellation fee will apply to stays in our heritage apartments and houses. To reschedule, cancel your stay or for additional information, please contact our accommodation team by phoning (02) 9700 4111 or emailing stay@cockatooisland.gov.au.
