Looking for a school holiday idea that will engage and excite your kids? Catch the ferry to Cockatoo Island and step back in time with our brand-new sensory experience!

Convict Sounds is a unique way for families to learn about Cockatoo Island’s turbulent convict era (1839-69). Here’s the fun twist… Parents and children alike will get to participate in the creation of a historic soundscape!

As you explore convict-era buildings, including the Mess Hall, Barracks and Convict Workshops, a knowledgeable guide will share historical anecdotes and prompt you to get playful and recreate sounds from the island’s former penal establishment. Think whispered conversations, dramatic convict ballads, the percussive clank of machinery and hand tools…even animal noises! In this way, you’ll conjure the past in the present.

[Note: All children under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult.]
