Cockatoo Island offers primary school students with the unique opportunity to explore the history and development of colonial and industrial Australia.

What is on offer?

Cockatoo Island, Sydney Harbour's largest island, is an educational dream. Layers of history sit side-by-side, providing a perfect example of how human occupation and use of the site has changed over time.

The journey begins with a trip on board a heritage ferry followed by a tour of the convict and industrial precincts (including the new tunnel soundscape), audio-visual displays and craft activities.

The excursions are led by experienced and qualified teacher guides. Students hear stories of the island's remarkable history and colourful characters, including famous inmate and sole escapee Captain Thunderbolt!
