Cockatoo Island offers rich learning opportunities for secondary students across a range of syllabus areas. Focus areas for programs include: colonial history, industrial heritage, changing environments, urban growth and decline, civics and citizenship, art-making and creative response. HistoryStage 4 and 5: Site Studies Guided by the inquiry 'How and why has the human occupation of Cockatoo Island changed over time?', this site study encompasses a range of topics, including colonial life and the impact of colonisation on the Aboriginal people of Sydney; living and working conditions of Australians over time; Australia's involvement in WWI and II; Aboriginal land rights; community action and the significance of the island as a World Heritage site. |
