Visitor feedback

"Our two families spent five days in the holiday house and it was magic. The kids played on the island and the adults soaked up the views, the fascinating island history and played host to day-tripping friends. The house is fully equipped with all the mod cons, plus a grass tennis, bbq and large table under the trees. A great way to holiday in your own city."

"
This is a unique place, and we had a truly wonderful holiday. Happy children, happy parents."

"The house was beautiful, clean and spacious. We had around 6 people sharing this place for 2 nights and it was really relaxing."

Media reviews

"In a more urban environment, Cockatoo Island, on the western side of Sydney Harbour, was once crammed with dockyards and is now a venue for arts shows, concerts and festival events. Tent sites with million-dollar views are provided on the island, or you can take a camping package (tent, lamp, camp chairs and mattresses). Kitchen and barbecue facilities are excellent and, with the island now serviced by Sydney Harbour ferries, this surely has to be the city's best-value budget-end accommodation".

"Perched on a hill overlooking the island's camping ground and the harbour beyond, it's a super-cool feeling to wake to the sunrise on your own island in the middle of the city, and then have a stretch on the balcony over the waking campers far below - think dozens of tiny grey tents spaced two metres apart. Hard not to feel like a king surveying his fiefdom."

"Our destination is renowned for its hard-knuckle convicts and escapades, wartime shipbuilding, dry docks and slipways... But mostly we're going to push down pegs and try what, in time, may become one of the great camping experiences of the world. Cockatoo Island's old plate yard on its north apron opened at Easter as a campground, with plush facilities and million-dollar views up and down the harbour."

"Luckily for us, Cockatoo Island Camping turned out to be camping 101 with bells on... we were soon welded to our deckchairs (which came complete with stubbie holders) and sipping cold beers bought from the one-site cafe, while watching the turquoise sky melt into burnt orange. We were in camping heaven."

"It has to be one of the finest experiences a Sydneysider can have - to pitch a tent in the centre of our working Harbour and contemplate the history that made it what it is today. "
